Philip Brooks' Patent Infringement Updates reported the news that Microsoft was fined 105 million dollars. This happened after losing a court case raised by the California company VirnetX Holding Corporation. According to the indictment Microsoft had infringed two patents related to methods for security system in a virtual private network (VPN).
According to the decision of the court, Microsoft will pay a compensation of 71 million dollars for violating the first patent and 34 million dollars for violations of the second patent.
