After long discussions and negotiations the U.S. Internet service providers finally inclined to sign "Memorandum of Understanding", an agreement which aims to take action against users who violate copyright on the Internet. AT & T, Cablevision Systems, Comcast, Time Warner and Verizon have agreed to cooperate with the MPAA (The Motion Picture Association of America whose members are Disney, Sony, Paramount, Warner Bros and Twentieth Century Fox), the Recording Industry Association of America ( representing companies such as Universal, EMI North America, Warners and Sony), the IFTA (representing independent producers of music and audio-visual works) and A2IM, which represents independent record labels.
"Memorandum of Understanding" is based on a system of copyright alerts designed to warning Internet users about the existence of possible copyright infringement. The aim is to overcome one of the main arguments against innocence of the end user, namely that he was not aware that violate copyrights.
However, this agreement does not provide any enforcement actions against the Internet users and it is not intended to provide information about such users to copyright holders.
It is a middle option where there is some progress in combating with internet piracy, but on the other hand does not take extreme measures against Internet users.
